I’ve now been sending out this newsletter for 9 months and I’ve never had a response to an edition like last week’s. I wrote about a BBC comedy programme recorded in Ventnor which claimed we have no escalators on the Island. In asking: ‘Is this true?’ So many of you have emailed to respond – I’m still in the midst of replying. It turns out there are three: B&M Homestore; Cineworld and in the Coop in Ryde – although this one is of the no-stairs escalator variety so only just counts. So here’s a slightly benign question for you: What is the Island missing – happily or unhappily – when compared to the mainland? My starters: motorways; a cathedral and John Lewis. Answers on an email please.
